The right side takes blood from the body and sends it on to the lungs. This blood contains carbon dioxide that is removed from the body when you exhale. Oxygen rich blood from the lungs is returned to the heart through the left side where it is pumped back out to the body. Superior Vena Cava Pulmonary Artery PULMONARY VEINS - LEFT ATRIUM Blood flows back to the heart from the lungs and enters the Left Atrium. Just like the right, the Left Atrium contracts and squeezes the Right Atrium blood into the Left Ventricle.
